Last year the Obama Administration addmitted 12,500 Syrian refguees.  Should the United States continue this policy in  2017, increase the number of refugees admitted, reduce the number, or stop taking in Syrians altogether?

America should still accept refugees. They still need places to live and other places can only take so many, and some have already started to ban refugees or not let them in. Also, if they get jobs, America has more people working which boosts the economy.

If we keep creating jobs it can be good and bad though. If we have more jobs then not only refugees can get jobs but homeless can too.

I hear a lot of this, but I'm wondering if there is any evidence of Refugees boosting the economy? Just wondering.

I think that we should increase the amount of refugees we take in, it helps them get out of their situation They are also bringing more more businesses and fixing up crapy neighborhoods. Lastly it is the right thing to do it is only human of us to help them in this time the time that they are in need.

They stay there and only people in need of money stay in these neighborhoods so they go there which causes an increase in the unemployment in the city making the companys go there looking for workers.

Very often if not always refugees are put in craoy neighborhoods where the houses are'nt nice its a bad place and with more and more refugees being put there they want to live in a nice neighborhood like everyone else s they fix it up so there place is a nice place to live.

We should allow Syrian refugees to come to our country, I dont care if you judge me, but this is my personal opinion, I mean they're People too. We should give them a nice happy welcome, not kick them out after all they went through to get here.

In the best interest of the American People, I believe that we should (temporarily) stop refugees from entering this country. I think that it is best to try to find a way to seperate the terrorists in the crowds from the people who had to leave their home because of the terrorists among them. I truly would want refugees to make a better life for themselves in a safer country, but I don't agree with people who directly oppose our opinions and would fight to hurt us. A lot of terrorist attacks in countries are caused by terrorists who entered the country through immigration. The terrorist attack in France by a truck, and any other attacks are a result of these people.

I think we should increase the number of refugees. First of all they are helping our buisnesses and they are also fixing up the broken neighborhoods. It is proven that when they came in people started buisnesses because they needed jobs and now we are making new buisnesses just to give them jobs. Also when they come in and they go to a crappy neighborhood and they rebuild those houses.

I think that they should continue this policy because they are running away from danger and people don't care that their are people who are just trying to live. They just act like they are no body but the are such a big deal. This is very hurtful to people who are just simply trying to survive. They want the benefits just like we get and we think they don't deserve what we get. Did we try to run away from terrorist, did we sacrifice our lives just to simply get some basic human rights that everybody should get. No, we are sitting there laughing at something very serious. This is why we should continue to keep our numbers of letting migrants in steady.

The United States should continue taking in refugees. This is because we need to increase awareness that they aren't bad like everyone thinks. Also because otherwise, they'll die. For example, that small child that died in the shore of Europe along with hundreds of others. We need to help them.

We should keep the number of refugees we keep taking each year because they are working people in need of homes. They are willing to work hard which could help the US economy. They are also in trouble and we have the power to help them so we could help save thousands of lives.

Since the number of refugees is always increasing do you think we should take in a percentage instead of a set number. Like 10% instead of saying just a set 50k or something

The percentage would be helpful so no matter the number of refugees it would still be equal to the number of total refugees we take in.

By reports and studies done by multiple organizations refugees improve the economy and are willing to put their life into the american dream like the good old days. They're thankful for us having them in our country.

I say we should reduce the number of Syrian refugees we let into our country. It's important to give refugees a new start. But America needs to put it's people first. And, bringing in refugees costs tax payers money. However, if we still let refugees in, it brings in opportunity for a boosted economy and lets them live a safe life. And there are other countries they can go to like Canada. But overall, we should still let in refugees but reduce the amount.

I disagree we are rebuilding america and we are taking in refugees I think that it won't affect the way our country is rebuilding itself, america can worry about itself as well as others. If we reduce the amount coming in at a time we will be putting them in possible danger for a longer time.

Wesson Taylor
12/13/2016 08:47:54 am

I have an idea that may not be a good one and will likely be an extremely debatable topic but it could be good. In 2017 we should take a percentage of the refugees instead of a pure number in order to be as effective as a helper every year. If other countries become overwhelmed with refugees we can offer to take them. But the catch is that we should barter debt for refugees, as we are almost $20Tri in debt. With that much debt we cant wait to miss out on opportunities like this one for example. We are only benefiting from this. Especially because of the refugees' drive to help us too.

With the amount of debt we have and the connections with NATO and the EU we are funding them staggering percentages of money compared to other friendly countries. We can agree to pay less, get funding in return or ask other countries to start putting in their share as well.

I strongly believe that the U.S should continue this policy in 2017. Currently, Syrian refugees are facing very harsh conditions, such as terrorism, war, and other related catastrophe. It is true that Germany has been taking in many refugees as well, and it is now a common destination for them to flee to. Although it is true that Syrian refugees can be potentially dangerous, just like any other foreigners who come to other countries, I do not think it's right to disregard their needs and shut them out just because of a few terrorists or criminals. The criminals and terrorists whom we don't want in the U.S can be dealt with separately. Not only should we allow Syrian refugees to enter our country and build a new life because of the dangerous conditions back at their own, but we should also allow them to do so because other countries, such as Europe, are protesting against them. An example includes a woman and a man holding up a sign that states, "No way. You will not make Europe home." Especially if we notice other nations not wanting to let in the Syrians, we should pitch in and take action. There are many people less fortunate than ourselves out there.

I think we should increase security and how many we take in. I think that if a husband or wife might be linked to terrorism and if they have kids then we should get them safe and then deal with whoever might be linked to terrorism. I think we should only allow 10,000 refugees in and see how that goes first and then maybe well take in more.

We should keep the same amount of Syrian refugees we let into our country each year. We should do this because they can help build our economy and maybe in the future can become our allies. I wouldn't increase the numbers because they could be bringing the danger to the US. When they enter they should be investigated so they are not apart of ISIS or any other terrorist group. These refugees should be able to live a life with out fear of dying everyday.

I have a very unpopular opinion and a very weird idea for what we should do for the refugees coming into America.

I do not think we should let syrian refugees into our country, but however I don't think we should just leave them to die.

I think that we should find some unclaimed territory that is good for agriculture, and is big enough to fit enough refugees into, and keep them there.

They don't have to learn english, they could use agricultural land to plant and grow food for themselves (with the help of us, giving them money and funding of course) and the fortress could be heavily protected by the military.

They could keep on growing food, have some animals there too, and the resources that could be produced could be so huge, that once ISIS and everything is taken care of, they can use the resources they produced to take with them to Syria, and that could give them a fresh start into building a new country.

It may seem like a very expensive and ridicoulous idea, but it could possibly work.

The reason why I don't want them in the USA is because maybe some terrorists (I'm not saying all of them on terrorists) could pretend to be a refugee, and commit crimes and harm our country. It has happened in Paris, and a terrorist attack also almost happened in Germany too: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2016/10/11/german-refugee-terror-attack-averted-refugees/91885722/

My idea and opinion may seem ridicoulous, like I said before, but I think my idea may work.

You had some good points but I don't know of any unclaimed territory and I kind of doubt that there is still any unclaimed territory and if there was we would have to claim that territory to make this plane work and that would make that territory part of America

Reply
Thomas

Maybe making an underground area with different sections and rooms to make and store resources could work. There are currently 2 pieces of unclaimed territory, one in Antartica and one called Bir Tawil. Neither seem adaptable however.

Leon Julca
12/15/2016 08:44:33 am

The reason I don't agree is that refugees are of the same flesh and blood as anyone else and should not have to be isolated/segregated into a place that is uninhabited and most likely barren because of that.

Reply
Thomas
12/18/2016 11:03:01 am

But the thing is is that wouldn't it be better for them? They wouldn't have to learn to speak english, everyone would be speaking arabic, if there was a terrorist attack (which would be very unlikely) it would be stopped by a soldier immediately. I get what you mean by isolating them, but it would make life a lot more easier for them. They also won't have to deal with xenophobic people too, as that they would be separated from them and it wouldn't affect either of them in any way.

Carter Beaton
12/15/2016 08:35:16 am

I think that we should keep the policy. All the refuges want is a new job, home, and overall safer life for their kids. Most refuges move to the US for their kids. For example that video we watched about that Syrian family they moved here for a better life for their kids. They also have to go through a lot of security to get here so they mean no harm. They also are very hard workers and will help the economy.

I think we should not allow Syrian refugees into our country. Some of the refugees are taking a good amount of our jobs, that may be helping our economy, however, I think we should help our previous existing US citizens jobs first. Some teenage and young adults can't get jobs because of the refugees willing to take lower income is stealing from the other citizens.
